Winter in Coolangatta

The Gold Coast winter is beautiful. The weather features the driest conditions of the year, the mornings are fresh and the days are normally between 18 – 24C.

You may find the beach a little chilly (however our friends from down south don’t seem to mind) but don’t worry for those that like the water a little warmer the pool and spa here at Ocean Plaza Resort are fully heated, so everyone can still enjoy a winter dip.

Winter is a great time to explore the Gold Coast and surrounding Tweed Coast region.

Here are 5 of our top picks for making the most of your winter Gold Coast holiday.

1. Whale watching

Stay with us during June to October whilst it is whale watching season and enjoy seeing these majestic creatures from your balcony at Ocean Plaza Resort! You can also take advantage of our partnership with Coolangatta Whale Watch and receive a discount on your whale watching tour and free shuttle bus pick up. This truly is a “bucket list experience”, a must do at least once in your lifetime. See the team at the front desk for more information.

2. Visit a theme park

Winter is the perfect time to visit the theme parks, lines are shorter, days are cooler and lots of fun for the family to be had. Dreamworld, Sea World, Movie World and Wet and Wild are iconic Gold Coast attractions and only 30 minutes drive or shuttle from your accommodation at Ocean Plaza Resort. Pick your tickets up from us at reception before heading off to save you time once you arrive.

3. Take yourself off on a day trip to Byron Bay

Located just 60 kilometres across the border into New South Wales is the town of Byron Bay. Described by Vogue Australia as a “part laid-back coastal town, part hipster/hippy enclave, with a dash of sophistication, the beauty of Byron Bay is in its diversity – and, of course, its natural beauty”. Which is true, Byron Bay has something for everyone, visit the Cape Byron Lighthouse, have lunch at the Farm Byron Bay, shop in the trendy stores located in the village or head to the nearby Crystal Castle.

4. Catch a show or dine at Twin Towns Services Club

Located just down the road is the Twin Towns Services Club, which hosts a number of entertainment and dining venues.

Pop over and take a look at their daily free shows and event including bingo line dancing, trivia, movies and more. To tantalize your taste buds while you are there, visit one of their 7 restaurants.
